Compensation: 
  • $250/month
Time Commitment:
  • a minimum of a one-year commitment starting in January 2018.  
  • average hours are 15-20 hours per month
  • 3-month trial period to ensure that the position is a good fit

Summary objective of the Visual Art Editor:
The visual art editor directs and manages the visual art that is published in Ruminate, an independent, nonprofit, contemplative-arts magazine in its eleventh year of publication. This position requires impeccable editorial skills, a heart for all that Ruminate represents, and experience as a compassionate, skillful communicator.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and write an editorial vision for their department
  • Manage the visual art department's general submissions by reading/reviewing them each month via Submittable.
  • Manage the acceptance/rejection notices for their department via Submittable in a timely manner.
  • Invite and manage the associate readers/viewers for the visual art department.
  • Assist in procuring judges and panelists for the annual art contest and creating a call for entries for the art contest.
  • Correspond with and manage the files/forms/details from their department's accepted contributors for each issue. 
Qualifications:
  • BA/BFA in studio art or art history, or equivalent experience
  • Three years progressive experience in arts administration, exhibit curation, or related field
  • Strong background in contemporary art, art practices, and exhibition submission standards
  • Familiarity with fine art publication best practices
  • Proficient with digital image editing using industry standard software
  • Impeccable organizational skills and an exacting eye for detail.
  • Clear communicator who listens respectfully to others and can work effectively in a collaborative environment as well as independently.
  • This position is self-directed, so a high degree of self-motivation is critical
  • Flexibility and ability to work gracefully under pressure. (A sense of humor helps.)
